I Dare You's...

Years ago, as my daughter and I were getting settled into our "new" living life daring lives, we started something. We both knew that we had done something gutsy and courageous moving to Oregon without a clear plan other than certainty that this was the right thing to do. We began, "I Dare You's". With I Dare You's, if you were the recipient, you would answer, "Dare accepted" when given a dare. Mind you, the dares were all innocent dares. They didn't contain danger but courage and excitement. Here is one I dare you that sticks out for me.

We were at the grocery store when my daughter and I saw a guy in a wheelchair. My daughter J looked at me and mouthed, "He's hot!" So, I whispered to her, "I dare you to tell him that he is." She said, "Dare accepted." She went off to find him as he had wheeled over to another aisle. She came back beaming. "I did it!" she said. "I told him, 'I know this may sound creepy but I promise that I'm not creepy. I just wanted you to tell you that I think you are a very handsome man." She said that he had this huge smile on his face and said thank you. 

We went to check out our groceries and there he was again in the next check stand. He kept staring at her as his groceries were being bagged. Finally, he said to her, "Thank you again! This really made my day!"

We both recognized that people need to be noticed. We saw how much that one I Dare You brought someone else joy. So, we continued to do I Dare You's, randomly. What a difference we can all make if we can get out of our comfort zones and do something to make a difference for someone else. I Dare You!!
