A Phenomenon of One

There's a strange phenomenon happening in the house. It's growing by huge proportions. I have no idea where it began, what the cure is or when it will stop. I call it the phenomenon of one.

I love to cook. There are 5 people in my house who love to eat what I cook. Yet, case in point, there is always one of something left over until finally, it gets tossed. It could be something delicious like a caramel apple, a slice of cheesecake, the last bit of ice cream (enough for one), the last slice of cake, the last taco. Either way, it sits, and sits, until eventually, it is tossed because it's hit the point of no return.

I examined this phenomenon carefully and came to the conclusion that everyone in the house is too polite or doesn't want to look greedy so instead of helping themselves, they assume that someone else will eat it instead. Given that there are 4 (not counting Baby Boo) that think this way, we have food that goes to waste weekly...GOOD FOOD...not nasty, tasteless food but good.

So, a family discussion brought out the suggestion to call, "I got one" and that person that wants the last piece of something can take it without guilt or shame (even if it means out of someone else's grasp) but that means, they have now used their "one". Once your "one" is used, you have to wait until everyone else has used their "one" and then it starts all over again.

I've decided to use my "one" when there's the last crab leg sitting in the pot. No wait, maybe the last piece of cherry pie, no..pizza...oh heck! Too many choices!

Your family is so polite. My pigs just eat it and leave the empty container in the fridge.

I love that idea. We only have two of us here and my hubby and I are always saying, "no honey, you take it." "no, sweetie I really don't want it you have it."
It's rather annoying.

Lord, I hate to cook. But, I love to eat! I would have absolutely no guilt taking the last piece of anything:)

There is only my husband and I now and I still can't get used to cooking for just two. So my leftovers are enough to feed an army. We have dinner, lunch the next day and smorgasboard Thursday! I have a chocolate theme on my blog too. Great minds must think alike! Nice to meet you.
