Things I've Learned Thursday

Some of you have asked about the fire and whether anyone was hurt. Unfortunately, the family dog was killed. But, there was no one home at the time. The fire started as a result of a cigarette in the garage. With three adults and 4 kids living there, the community has come to the rescue providing clothes, food, shelter and Christmas gifts and even a new dog.

On to the things I've learned...

1) Never let a 2 year old lick the beaters of a Red Velvet cake two hours before bedtime. She refused to go to sleep for two hours and even then, it was a battle.

2) Christmas isn't Christmas without watching a Charlie Brown Christmas.

3) When a two year old comes running to you and says, "Look Momo!" and then sticks her hands down her pants and says, "Look poop!" and has it all over her hands, I'm learning to stay calm and breathe deeply.

4) I learned that not getting a job offer is very disappointing. I learned though, that finding something to make me smile makes the disappointment a bit easier to handle.

5) I have Wii avoidance issues. I'm so worried that when I step on the balance board my Mii is going to look like an oompa loompa.

6) Firemen and firewomen are truly heroes.

7) Kids wish lists when I was a kid were so much simpler. I remember wanting a jump rope, a pretend telephone, a Nancy Nurse doll and an etch a sketch. Oh, and pick up sticks! Kids toys now are so expensive. Baby Boo wants a kitchen...sung to the tune of $165.00.

8) It's only at Christmas time that I crave tamales.....not just any tamales but the ones that my neighbor who passed away used to make. I wish that I had gotten her recipe. There is no other tamale like hers.

9) I had no idea what a snowbird was until I moved here to the Coachella Valley. The town I live in is hustling with activity and there are license plates from people everywhere. I don't blame them...we're still in shorts and capris right now. And, we're bringing out the bbq grills.

10) Son in Boo is Christmas songs challenged. He honestly (bless his heart) thought that it was a "partridge in a cherry tree".

What have you learned?

I learned today that I missed getting my allergy shot because I didn't have it written on my calendar. Gotta have lists!

Poop on the hands...ooooo...

I'm still laughing...at all of this!!!! But come on, look at that sweet face licking those beaters...how can you deprive her of her pleasure?!?! Just bake a little earlier in the day!! :) I'll remember this for when I have little ones around again though!!

What have I learned today? To duck even lower when I go in the crawl space...bashing the side of my head on the corner of the heating duct was NOT a smart move (my head is still spinning!!).

I've learned that when we grow up, and we can "do what we want" it still doesn't happen.

Here I am WANTING to stay in Florida, but have to go home to dark, wet, cold, Indiana before all the burglars figure out we're not there.

Simone,

This was a great post filled with all kinds of surprises, some you definitely don't want to be seeing anytime soon, like the Poo!

I love your Charlie Brown Christmas tree! It looks just like the real thing. Tamales are my favorite all year long, especially the authentic and homemade ones.

What an interesting list today, Simone! Please, when you see an Alaskan snowbird please send my regards, there are a few I know down there golfing in paradise while we are buried in snow!

Oh my LEAST FAVORITE CAKE is red velvet!! I recall telling my mother to never make it again when I was a child. Did she listen to me? NO!!

Baby Boo is a riot!!

Re job, the right one has not appeared for you. Yet. And yes, fire fighters are awesome!!!

Baby Boo OMG she is too cute! Lesson I learned this week it's better for your tummy not to eat raw cookie dough! Also better to give cookies out right away before family eats them all and your have to go to plan B. Have a wonderful weekend.

I'm relieved to hear that no one was killed in that dreadful fire but I do feel terrible they lost their family pet. I agree with the Christmas Lists now, when I was little we didn't even do a list, we received one present and a small sock and thought we were rich we were so happy.

What I have learned is that sending your 3 1/2 year old to pre-school will guarantee that she will be well one week and sick the next!

BTW, when you get a minute, stop by, I have something for you today!

Simone -

I loved your list. The poop story is one to keep for her first serious boyfriend (the one you don't like!)

A job will come just be patient. I was out of work for a while but am working now in a field I never thought I would be in - accounting.

Who knew? God knew?

Baby boo is just so darn stinking cute!!!!

LOL at the Oompa Loompa Mii. I wanna punch my Mii at times.

I've learned that happiness can't be bought. You must find it within.

I've been learning this particular thing over and over again, sometimes on a daily basis, for decades. That's right!

I can't fix everything. That's God's job.

I love your Charlie Brown tree! Very cute!! And yes, kitchens are expensive--even kid ones! :)

I agree--firefighters are definitely heroes!

Not getting a job offer is certainly disappointing, but just think of rejection as their unfortunate lack of insight into how wonderful you are. Their loss!

I got my girls their toy kitchen from Craig's List...in great condition for only $40. So worth it and they love it.

Sorry for the cake batter debacle!

Why oh why do they stick their hands in their pants when there's poop down there?

Oooooh, I HAD a Nancy Nurse!! I didn't think anybbody else would remember that doll, but I loved her!
Baby Boo is adorable. Red face and all.
What have I learned? That having NOTHING to do at work is just as tiring as having TOO MUCH to do.

Christmas tamales-- That what makes it "the most wonderful time of the year" :-) I LOVE those.

Missed you while I was away. I've been reading and catching up. It sounds like you've been very busy. And your home looks so beautiful for the holidays!!!!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
