Things I've Learned Thursday

1) Why is it that some food only tastes good when it's cooked by someone else?

2) Nothing today is as entertaining as childhood toys from long ago. I miss playing jacks, jump rope, hopscotch, marbles, pick up sticks, hula hoop, Light Bright and puzzles.

3) I thought roadrunners were adorable until I saw one running with a baby bird in it's beak.

4) Being zapped by a bark collar is like getting tased.

5) Lately, I've had days where I just want to eat a bowl of cereal and watch old cartoons. Am I going into my second childhood?

6) God's alarm clock is set differently from mine. For the last few weeks, I've woken up at 3:30 am. The roosters aren't even up that early.

7) I'll never eat at McDonald's again without thinking of the man that was choking off of hamburger. Thankfully, he was able to cough it out but that was enough to scare away my appetite.

8) I need to read the dictionary before I decide to play online Scrabble. Some of the people I'm playing are either making up words or they've got the dictionary open.

9) I've been having a craving for something weird like bacon and jalapeno sandwiches or chocolate jalapeno ice cream. Nope, not pregnant. Nope, never tasted either of those before but they do sound good!

10) Married Boo just made a statement that she is NOT her hair by having her hair cut extremely short. I'm proud of her for standing up for her beliefs...although it's going to take a little getting used to.

What have you learned?

Ah, jacks, my favorite childhood pastime. That and Pick-Up-Sticks.

Chocolate jalapeno ice cream? I'll just pass on that one, thank you.

I've learned that when life gets tough, you just get a cortisone injection in your knee and keep going.

That two dogs are more than twice as much trouble as one.

That on extremely hot and humid nights, I have to drive with my windshield wipers on, just as if it were raining.

That daisies will live a week in a vase on the dining room table even if you've forgotten to change the water and put in fresh flower food.

That fresh spinach on a turkey sandwich is infinitely better than lettuce.

That the witching hour in the country is lit by the heavens, orchestrated by tree frogs and katydids, danced by lightning bugs and spiders in gossamer webs, and is utterly peaceful.

That a dear friend is pulling up roots, leaving her loved ones, and in spite of her heart breaking, is looking forward to a new adventure. That it takes courage to do such a thing, and that I wish her the very best that life has to offer.

Food does taste better when someone else prepares it, but I'm going to pass on your chocolate and jalapeno icecream and bacon and jalapeno sandwich!
You listed a lot of good toys and activities. The toys now don't seem to require imagination or activity.
God's alarm clock has been set crazy for me too, lately!

Amen to #1! And food that your dinner companion orders always seems to taste better than what's on your plate too!

Happy Friday, dear Simone.

Humidity sucks!

I've learned that lately books are far more interesting than television.... that maybe they always were!

I've learned that you can gain two pounds in a day and feel crappy over it.

I've learned that an unexpected hug from my two year old can bring me to tears or to laughter.

Sorry about that 3 a.m. alarm clock - hope it lets you sleep in soon! :-)

I had cereal with the diva this morning. It really is such a comfort food!

I hope you have a good weekend full of creative and peaceful moments. Hugs!

Love this list!!

I am laughing with you about the online Scrabble game. And seriously, what are some of those words?

As far as cooking -- I never understood why my mother never ate much of the Thanksgiving dinner when I was young. Now, being a mother and cooking many meals --- I totally get it!

Have a wonderful day.

I love hot pepper jelly so why not ice cream. I like it spicy...just that kinda girl!

I have learned that kids today are delighted when ya pull out the old childhood standbys of jacks and jump-ropes. My kids in Kid's Church thought I was the 'bomb' when I introduced pick-up-sticks to them.

You have yourself one extremely blessed weekend sweetie!!!

I'm back from a great trip to Ohio and trying to catch up. I hope all is well in your world Simone.

Hello...I came here via Mari's blog and wanted to meet the blogger behind the comment so to speak.

I never stop learning. And it's only logical that I'd love and find that food tastes better when someone else cooks it. LOL AND cleans up the cooking mess left behind too.

Hope your weekend will treat you nicely and the sun warms your heart.

Coffee is like that--it always tastes better when someone else makes it.

Do kids even know about hopscotch and jump rope anymore? I'm with you--I LOVE that stuff. And paints and CLAY! I love playing with clay/Playdoh!! I'm coming over to play hopscotch, pally.

Never saw a roadrunner in person. Are they cannibals?
