Things I've Learned Thursday

I'm here in Oregon and loving it. The next post won't be as lighthearted as this one as I explain some of the how's, why and what's that a few of you have asked about. In the meantime, here are the things I've learned....

1) Dramamine works wonders for dogs. My two endured a 18 hour drive and not once did they barf, pee, poop or attempt to fly out of the car window out of sheer cabin fever. In fact, they were the perfect traveling companions.

2) Living across the street from a pit bbq place can either be a bad thing or a good thing. It all depends on how you view it. (Btw, they have karaoke nights on Thursdays...I WILL be there!)

3) Never buy an air mattress from a thrift store. Apparently, they don't test them before they sell them. I was just thankful that it wasn't a life raft floating out to sea!

4) I was so happy to have internet once again that I almost kissed the technician. (I said, "almost").

5) Dogs love Lunchables, Chex mix and cookies.

6) I've given new meaning to "feel the fear and do it any way".

7) Saying goodbye isn't as hard when you pretend that you're going to see that person again the next day, and the next day and the next.

8) I donated three of my paintings (originals done by me) to a thrift store. I wonder if anyone will go in search to find out if I'm a famous artist or not. Better yet, I wonder if any of them will sell?

9) I stink at playing Solitaire.

10) I'm so happy to be on this adventure with my baby girl, Single Boo.

What have you learned?

PS--I will get caught up on all the blog posts although it may take some time.

glad to know that you're settling in well. :) wish i was living there so i can sing some awful karaoke songs with you. ;)

i've learnt that:

1. my 14 months old son will walk when he is ready and daddy shouldn't push him too hard!

2. he picks up the bad acts quicker than what is good for him. (check out my WW - he's copying his daddy's laugh).

3. i'm beginning to prefer wine spritzer to exotic cocktails/shots - am i getting old too fast?

4. a smile makes the world go round - i learnt that before but it means more now when it comes from your baby! :D

5. your blog is hard NOT to follow.

So good to hear from you! And even better to know that you're loving Oregon!

What a great tip - Dramamine. My daughter is cat sitting for me in a couple of months, and I'd been wondering how I was going to make Spooky endure the 1 1/2 hour drive - Spooky panics when I drive her to the end of the driveway. Now I know just what to do!

Speaking of air mattresses - last night at the post office, we had a large heavy package that was...hissing. We never did find out what it was, but I told everybody it felt and sounded like an air mattress with a slow leak.

I was surprised this week to find my dogs love Chex Mix. They also love Vienna Sausage, barbecue potato chips, popcorn, and angel hair pasta.

If I ever see one of your paintings in a thrift store, I will buy it and display it with pride!

I'm glad you have made it and that you are enjoying Oregon.
I'm glad you are able to maintain a good sense of humor, although I know this was a hard thing.
I'm glad you have a good place to eat, right across the street!

I'm so glad to hear you've landed safely practically in my 'back yard'. We Portlanders try to keep up on our reputation of being one of America's friendliest cities. I think MOST of the time we succeed, ha!

My trip on this ol' ball of mud has been so jam-packed with so many different experiences it'd take a book to tell you all I've learned. You mentioned fear...here's something I've learned about THAT! 99% of what we fear or fret about never comes to pass. It's the 1% that does happen that can be so hard, but if we face it, deal with it, and move on we can usually look back at it after time's passed a bit and find we've learned valuable life lessons from it. So...this sounds like one of those 1% times in your life. Just hang on to your life line (I'm thinking about your air mattress, ha! ;-P ) and those rough seas will calm.

So glad to know that you are fine and are settling in well. Somehow I have the feeling that you are one of those who could make whatever place a "home." :)

Thankful your adventure is going well. Glad you had no barf, pee, poop, etc. My dogs travel well, too. Truly, that is a blessing!

I've learned that we can't change things without the right heartattude! and that is my biggie for now.

Hugs,

Hey CCD, It's a treat to see your post. I've been watching for you but honestly thought it would take longer to get settled and and reconnected. It's good to know you arrived safely and the dogs did just fine!

I'm thinking a bbq grill across the street could be a bit of a problem for me but the karaoke will make for great blog fodder.

A leaking air mattress is not cool. Sorry about that. Hope you're getting some sleep.

I'm guessing all of this isn't as easy as your sense of humor makes it sound but I'm cheering you on and hoping great things come your way. Keep up the good work. xo jj

I've learned that I should go to thrift stores to find art treasures!

I've learned to look forward to seeing comments from you~ Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement!

I've learned that having Hospice come to my house is harder than I ever imagined it would be!

Still working on trying to learn to let go....I really don't want to master that~

I'm glad you're settling in well. Yummm..it would be dangerous for me to live across the street from a BBQ place!

Good to hear that you made it safe and sound. Me thinks that living by the BBQ spot could be trouble! *lol*

Oooh, I want pictures and video of when you do sing at the bbq place for karaoke. Fun!

I think you're one of the bravest people I've "met" and I can't wait to see all the things you'll be learning now in your new place.

Cheers and best wishes! And thanks for your telephone message. You caught me on a hectic day (my birthday) but it was a great surprise to hear from you! I'll catch up with you after the weekend as I'm taking a short overnight trip. Hugs!

Sounds like your home girl! I'm thrilled that you love it! I fear I would be hungry all the time across from the BBQ but the karaoke would be most temptin'. I'm sure hoping that we get a video of you beltin' one out. :o)

I learned I can survive three weeks of temps 100-105...my flowers...not so much.

God bless ya and have a marvelous weekend, lookin' forward to your next post.
