I've missed my calling

I have officially decided that I should've become a veterinarian!

It all began when my shih tzu, Selah started twitching and holding her head sorta of funny like. I let it go, thinking that it was a new habit...after all, she is a drama queen and sneezes when she wants a treat.

I relented after she yiped when I went near her ear and took her to the vet.

I live in a very posh, ritzy town where ever corner is a country club so the vet's office resembles one too. High ceilings, a serenity garden with a fountain so your babies can meditate before they head into the vet/torture chamber.

The vet takes a look at Selah, aka known as Precious Poopsie and declares that she looks healthy but....

She lists all sorts of things that will need to be done or that she plans to do....I'm hearing the sound of the the cash register as she's talking. She is starting to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher.."wah wah waah wah wah". She takes Selah out to "examine" her (I think it was mainly to let Selah meditate while she added up the costs.)

Comes back in and tells me that it's "only" going to be $206.00. But...she really should have a baseline done....(Testing that probably costs 300.00). I tell her without hyperventilating..."No, we'll get that some other time."

For $206.00...She examined her, gave her an injection, cleaned her ears, charged 5.00 for waste disposal...what sort of waste...a kleenex??? and get this...41.00 for a small ear antibiotic.

I wonder if everyone will be thrilled when I wrap up a letter for each of them and tell them that their gift is to pet Selah because she is where their gifts went to.

Probably not....

My vet drives a big exensive car. My vet has just built a big animal hospital. I'm thinking I paid for at least the first floor and all it's equipment.

I now tend to go to my breder first for her advice and remedy and then the vet if necessary.

Yes, being a vet does have it's rewards I guess.

So what was the problem? an itchy ear?

btw your word verification is 'morcips' maybe that's what she had??????

I know!!! They are so expensive. Too bad we can't add our dogs to our insurance!

My brother's vet recently misdiagnosed their dog and make her skin infection worse by giving her medication that makes the bacteria the dog had spread. 600 dollars later after I told my brother what was wrong with her on day one when I saw her and clipped her hair the vet says... OOPS!! She has something else and needs different meds. And guess what no refunds for their mistakes. Some vets suck! I am glad I know a bit about dogs. Most things I treat myself except for shots I get them done there so they can be considered legally registered.

Yikes! I have been down that road before myself though. The Vet was great but the cost was way too much.

Thanks to a friend, I now have an awesome Vet with very reasonable prices.

That's outrageous! Poor puppy though.

It's worse having two dogs. You need a part time job to pay for the vet bills. They are almost more expensive than children!

This is why I like the Banfield health plan for my pup. It has saved us a lot. If we didn't have this we could not afford to keep our little fella.

Vets and orthodontists. Two medical professionals that have figured out how to rip us all off. I'm not sure the family is going to love that gift!! But, pets are worth it.
