What's it like being Black - questions welcome!
My friend, Denene at MyBrownBaby brought up some intriguing insights on being a Black woman and on topics such as hair care.
Being that I've been Black all of my life, I've had the joy of answering questions that usually began with, "This may probably be a stupid question but…" and most of the questions weren't stupid at all. What I found was that there are a lot of unanswered questions that remain that way unless someone is willing to answer them.
The biggest question that I was asked was, "What is it like being a Black woman in the U.S.?" Without wanting to sound as if I am writing an essay, I have many answers to that one question. If you'd like the answer, please let me know. I've also gotten questions like, "How do you make such good fried chicken?" "How do you take care of Black hair?" and the infamous, "What are you?" question.
I'm opening up my blog to answer any questions you have wondered about, pondered about or were curious about being a Black woman or just being Black in general. Seeing that our First Family is an African American family, I'm sure there's got to be some question that you may have. So, let the questions begin.
PS -- You can address it anonymously if you prefer.

Even though we elected the first black president, do you feel prejudice is alive and well in the US?
How close are we to being judged by the content of our charactor as opposed to the color of skin?
Do you feel you have been treated in the work force on a level playing field?
Ok, since you opened it up to any question... I heard that black people prefer other blacks with lighter skin.. urban legend?
I want to know if it's "black" or "African American"?
In my house, it's "Black", because I had a birth mom go off on me when I called her African American. She said she didn't have any family from Africa. There for she was not african! She was Black.
My husband says the first time he saw me he thought I was, too- the first white person that thought that, to my knowledge- so why do they think this? Do you see it?
Seriously, though, I really applaud your desire to be open and honest with everyone. I will second McEwens question and ask if you prefer to be called black or African American, or something else?
