Secret Life of Bees

If you haven't seen it, you should. I'm the type of person who reads deeply into the movies that I watch. It's like analogies come alive for me and before long, I'm ready to go out and hug a tree, adopt an elephant, change my career....you know heartwarming stuff like that.

What I got from the movie aside from the obvious messages, was sistership and friendship -- there's no color boundaries when it comes to that. It just is. I loved how the sisters immediately accepted and embraced the two people that showed up on their doorstep and made them "theirs".....in other words, a part of their family. It made me stop and think, "How often have I opened my door or my heart to someone and made them mine?"

As much as I'd like to say that I do this daily, I don't. It comes from failed adoptions, a disappointing marriage, backstabbing so called friends and unethical employers that have caused me to build walls and shut my heart instead of opening it up. After seeing this movie, I've decided that I want that warm fuzzy sisterhood/friendships again. I don't want to walk around waiting for the ball to drop but for the celebration party to begin.

So this is day one of trying harder to trust more, embrace more, feel more and care more. That also means throwing away the what if's to the wind. Easier said than done but I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

I LOVED the book! LOVED it!!

I hope the first day of tearing down the walls that you have built over the years is a sucessful one. That the past wont continue to influence the present (for the worse) much longer. Good luck!

I cannot wait to see the movie and read the book. I think we all do some sort of wall building. It's called survival. Think of what basketcases we would be if we didn't protect ourself some.

I bought the book a couple of months back and haven't touched it yet. I need to because it sounds so good!
