The Buddies

My twin sister and I had our kids somewhat close together so her oldest daughter and my oldest, grew up hanging out and her son and my youngest daughter, hung out. They were buddies. There was something precious about the two youngest - the buddies. Cameryn and TV Boo were two peas in a pod. They were 9 months apart and could play together for hours. Cameryn, being a boy cousin, didn't bristle when TV Boo wanted to play Barbies. He got his Steven Barbie doll and was the "rescuer" of her Barbies. Cameryn hated tying his shoes and was notorious for running with the laces flopping so it was a given, TV Boo always tied his shoes. Cameryn hated drinking water. He had to be forced to drink water. My sister had a rule that before he could drink anything else, he had to have a glass of water. He would cry because he hated water. TV Boo would cheer him on as he drank it. (I wouldn't be surprised if she snuck and drank his water for him.)

When Cameryn did the "boy thing" like learning basketball, TV Boo cheered him on from the sidelines. When TV Boo was in gymnastics, Cameryn let TV Boo know that he was right there, just in case she felt like crying. Cameryn was a motion sickness kind of guy whereas TV Boo was afraid of the dark. They complimented each other. He went with her to get a drink of water late at night and she always made sure that no one spun the merry ground too fast so that he'd be sick. TV Boo hated her "big hair" as she called it but Cameryn didn't care whether she was bald, he was her bud.

They were the unstoppable, mud playing, ball throwing, tree climbing duo - nothing could stop them, except for the big sisters. The big sisters were viewed as Godzillas to the buddies. Immersed in playing, it only took one shoe to squash their village of ants that they had so carefully worked on for hours. It took seconds for the big sisters to tease them until one or both of them came running into the house in tears.

Although the buddies are much older now and they don't play together or hang together anymore, I'm pretty sure they both remember the fun times they had. I think that maybe one day, their kids will hang together and the cycle will repeat itself once again.

That's such a sweet post. Being an only child, I hung out whenever I could with my cousins and we'd get into all sorts of trouble. :)

When the good times repeat themselves in our kids, that's the best. I think it means we did something right, like teaching them how to develop relationships and an appreciationa for family.

How nice to have family close so they can grow up together. My kids had cousin close by but the relationship was not as nice as your kids.

Hey....thanks for stopping by and for those sweet, sweet words~

I read through some of your blog...GIRL, we could be sisters! I love to write children's stories too and have always thought Picasso was an ass!

Some of my fondest memories are of summers at my grandmothers house with my cousins. We never see one another anymore except at funerals. Shame really...they are all great people.

I know you are so excited about your new house. I would be SO inspired to bring the paints and canvas out if I had a STUDIO! Good luck with it...COBALT BLUE is a favorite color of mine too!!!

Make it a great week~
