He gets a trip to the Today Show????

I seriously don't get it. I watched the Today Show and saw footage of a 7 year old boy driving his parents car and leading the police on a high speed chase. The reason...because he didn't want to go to church. He drove 2 miles and at times, erratically. He went through two stop signs. He didn't crash but stopped right in front of his house and ran into the basement until the cops knocked on his door and the dad answered.

What gets me is that he didn't get punished, he got rewarded. Why should he have the privilege of being on the Today Show and making his behavior seem like he deserved a reward instead of a butt whoopin'?

I really wanted to strangle the parents when they said, "But, we punished him. He's on room restriction for four days and no tv and no video games." Whoopee freakin' doo doo! The kid could've been killed or killed others. He was smiling as he spoke of his punishment. I've never seen a dead man walking, grinning from ear to ear. He wasn't punished, he was rewarded!!!

I bet money that this won't be the last time he takes the car. The next time, he'll be given a trip to Disneyland and maybe the opportunity to sing the national anthem at a Dodgers game.

Trust me, had my daughters tried that at his age, they would be missing out on more than just their video games.

Are you a softie when it comes to disciplining your kids or do you discipline with the expectation that he/she won't do it again? How did your parents discipline you?

I couldn't agree with you more. Had that been me, my daddy would have found a punishment far more suitable than that. And I can guarantee I wouldn't be on the Today Show to glamorize the incident.

He has a vacation living in his room,
4 days? If my son would have taken the car, you can bet your bottom dollar, it wouldn't be on TV glamorizing such an incident!

*shakes head.

Wow.

I'm not sure what his punishment would have been but it would have been much more intense than 4 days. Sounds like it's the parents that are loving the limelight.

Sick.

Girl,

I would have opened up a XL can of Whoop A** on his little bad behind! (LOL) Seriously... my parents would have beat the snot out of me.

....Makes you wonder... what goes on in that church to make little Johnny want to steal a car and drive it at the age of 7. (hmmmmmmmmm)

If one of mine had dones something like that, he wouldn't be coming up for air for quite sometime. What a crazy message to send their kid! Insane.

If I had done something like that as a kid....... I still wouldn't be able to sit today.........

those parents need a serious reality check...... ( the police knocking on the door should have been more than enough...... so maybe there's no hope....)

I'm so with you on this one! What a dangerous situation. If that boy had hurt someone, there would have been a much different spin put on this. But instead he's being showered with positive attention.

He was driving the car because he didn't want to go to church? Daddy was home??? Just who took this boy to church?

I am more than just slightly miffed, I am floored by this parents lack of discipline and I would agree that this will not end this youngsters urge to drive the family car again.

Thankfully this family does not represent those families that would not support this type of behavior by their kids and I agree that if their son had killed someone, I wonder what their response would have been?

I saw that too. Incredible! Everyone smiling on the couch. Sorry parents, but if that was my child he would be smiling without teeth.

On Good Morning America today, there was a segment about lifeguards sleeping on the job or texting or whatnot. Cut to 2 parents sitting together talking about how their 5 year old son drowned in a pool due to the inattentive 16 year old lifeguard. Their son was missing for 5 minutes and spotted by a 4 year old !!! And they were complaining about the lifeguard. WHERE WERE THEY!!!!!!

I was the oldest of 6 siblings. I had to watch my youngers and my parents were very strict. Back in the day one did not argue, negotiate or talk sass to their parents!!!

Yup, this has been all over. I saw the footage, and I also saw the footage of his parents teaching him how to drive. America's going to shits. It's like your kids don't need a 'cool' friend, they need you to be a parent first and furmost! Discipline your kids, dammit!

A young girl lived at the top of a hill in our neighborhood. One day she got behind the wheel and put the car in gear, rolling down the hill and crashing into a tree at the end of the street. No one was hurt, but I believe it was a full month before we ever saw that child in public again. No Today Show for her!

I suppose we are lucky he was punished at all. What exactly was the discussion on Today About?

Holy crap, are you kidding me???? And what is wrong with the Today show that they'd even WANT to have this stupid, bratty, undisciplined kid on? Ugh, disgusting.
You're right on. He would have been missing more than just TV and play time. If he were mine? He'd be missing a shitload of TEETH!
