I went to the nursing home again today since I had barely put a dent into her bills and accounts that were past due. I walked up to the front desk and before I could talk to the front desk person, I hear, "Ahhhhhh". I turned around and there she was (her name is Mary) smiling so big. She was saying hi to me. I went to her and rubbed her arm and told her that I was so happy to see her. I asked how she was doing and she started to make sounds that I could only define as her saying that she was happy to see me too and that she was doing good. I told her, "I told you I would be back and I am." It truly made my day to see her smiling. Unfortunately, I worked so efficiently that all of her bills were paid and sorted through today so there won't be a need for me to help out with her bills BUT I do intend to visit her this week and bring the cookies to her. I made a promise and I'm going to keep it.
Thank you all for your sweet comments. Trust me, if I could get paid just loving on the elderly people or being a Big Sister through the Boys and Girls Club...but even if I don't get paid, I'm going to volunteer. That's the plan!

I'm so glad you went back to see her. Having her face light up like that must have made your day as much as seeing you made hers.
Love that you are going back to bring those cookies. She will love that! Please post when you do!
That is really sweet. You have done your job for the day in God's eyes. You put a smile on someone else's face! Kudos to you and Kudos for what you will continue to offer!
Isn't it wonderful that she remembered you and was happy to see you? You truly have made a difference in her life!

I'm sure that what she would love to give you if only she could.
You made a sweet little ladies day. Who know what volunteering can turn into. You obviously have a special talent with people and even though you are not gettin' paid for it, you are making many unaware connections. People are always watching our lives and how we live it. God is using you in a very special way.
God bless you girl, and have the best day!!!
Good for you. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Good for you for doing something wonderful. I know she just appreciated you being there.
I volunteered last night at an Open Shelter. Let me tell you, that really opened my eyes.
I'm glad that you giving your time. People think it's one sided when they volunteer but you're also blessed.
It is a gift to be able to give and expect nothing in return! Let us know how it goes with the cookies! I'll be thinking of Mary this Christmas!
I think you just earned another set of feathers on your wings. Merry Christmas my friend. Look forward to getting to know you next year.
This touches my heart so much. What a wonderful thing you are doing. Such a connection. Merry Christmas.
It's so wonderful that you went back to see her! Older folks treasure time spent with others as the greatest gift. You are as much a blessing as you are blessed, Simone!
Merry Christmas!
You have touched her soul...sounds like the start of a beautiful friendship. :)
You are "Mary" Christmas to her. Way to go!
You are a dear, Simone. Isn't it amazing how your visit brightened both of your day??
I think it is a wonderful thing you are doing with Mary. My daughter when she was little (now 17) and I used to go to the Nursing Home up the road after church on Sun mornings. We would sing, sit with, talk, play games, etc with any of the residents that needed it. I too have a soft spot for elderly people around me. God has blessed you and put you in her life for a reason!! Merry Christmas to you!
Please make yourself a regular visitor to this women. Her work might be done but yours is not. Please visit her on a regular basis (not just to deliver the cookies). You have become her only friend and she needs you!!
It's a good thing!! Good for you!
What a blessing that was - for her and for you.
I hope it works out for you to keep in touch with her.
She will love that! Please post when you do!
