Bug Invasion

When I was a kid, my twin and I loved to catch bugs. We had bug catchers that served a purpose...to catch bugs. We caught bees, ladybugs, butterflies, roly polies and moths.

Flash forward....I'm not digging on bugs the same way I used to.

Lately, as in 2 months, we have been dealing with this:

Otherwise known as a crane fly. (Looks like a mosquito wanna bee if you ask me.) Supposedly, they don't bite or sting but they are a huge nuisance. Not only do they tend to fly mainly at night, but their purpose is to annoy me until I get out of bed, armed with a shoe, attempting to smash it.

Not only are they annoying but before they become the fearless winged species, they look like this:

Trust me...finding one of those crawling on the kitchen countertop without any explanation at to how it arrived, will make me scream.

**I can now add swan diving to their resume because as I typed this, one did a swan dive, right into my glass of water. I'm no longer interested in whether they can swim; I just want them gone!

I'm hanging out my "no vacancy" sign tomorrow. I sure hope they can read.

Thanks for clearing up the name of those nasty flies. I live near a nuclear plant and always thought they were skeeters on steroids.

Ick. Ick. Ick. I had a centipede in the house the other day and it completely freaked me out. I scared it and it was running crazy right towards ME! It had me cornered and I was screaming until somebody came to get him. Yeah...I don't like bugs either.

I am also a bug hater. Our problem this time of year is ANTS. They seem to come from nowhere and invade the house. We (I use that term loosely since it was really my husband) sprayed around the foundation with something to keep the ants outside. So far, so good.

Hope your creepy crawly visitors leave soon.

I could deal with the bug, but the larva? Ewwwwwwww! Nothing skeeves me out more than when flies get in the trash cans during the summer and I open them to find...maggots. I can't even deal with them. I just throw the lid back in the general direction of the can and run. The next guy can clean them up. :P
