I'm Versatile

According to Webster's this describes me to a T:

–adjective
1.
capable of or adapted for turning easily from one to another of various tasks, fields of endeavor, etc.: a versatile writer.

I swear I didn't bribe Ethel Mae to give me such a prestigious award but I do accept it graciously.

With accepting this award, I must list 8 things that you, my dear readers, may not know about me and then pass this along to 10 more bloggers. Ethel Mae doesn't know that I am not good at choosing bloggers for awards so I'm going to pretend that the award is up for grabs for anyone who wants it.

Without further adieu (what in the heck does that really mean?) here's a list of my 8 things...

1) I say grace at every meal, including snacks and I take it seriously. I saw a movie where kids in Africa were eating rice out of a communal bowl and I realized then, how thankful I should be that I have apples and peanut butter to eat and chips and animal crackers. So for that, I give thanks.

2) I owned my own daycare facility for 12 years and I'm a certified parent educator. I taught pregnant and parenting teens with a caseload of 50. I enjoyed spending time with the little ones and watching them grow.

3) I grew up in a strict Christian family. My parents didn't allow any music played in the house except Christian or gospel music. My sisters and I weren't allowed to dance. It was when I was in high school that I begin to listen to other music like the Eagles, Air Supply and more. Because of being a late bloomer where music is concerned, I love lots of music that even my daughters like, like Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, Regina Spektor and Stars.

4) When I was married, I wanted a third baby and sought the help of a fertility specialist. After months and months of trying to get pregnant, we decided to adopt, only for the adoption to fall through. After the ex married the mistress and they had their first child, I had a hard time accepting my own inability to bear another child and still have a longing from time to time. (Looking forward to grandchildren one of these days.)

5) I'm a hopeless romantic. I cry over one liner expressions of love. I hope and pray that I will one day find that true love.

6) I speak and understand Spanish very well but seldom do I utilize it. In the meantime, I'm learning to speak Mandarin Chinese, Korean and Swahili, thanks to Rosetta Stone.

7) I used to coach gymnastics and wanted to become a USAG gymnastics judge. After I saw the inner workings of the sport and the emotional and political aspects, I wanted nothing to do with it.

8) I've been called a goody goody or a goody two shoes since I was little. I don't curse or smoke (never have). Most boys I dated in high school told me that I was just too nice. Later in life, I thought being nice was a negative instead of a positive.

Whew! That was tougher than I thought!

If you'd like to play along, the award is yours for the taking.

Wow, look at you, learning all those languages! I WISH I had studied Spanish years ago. Now I'm afraid it's too late. Though I do plan on learning some Portuguese for when I visit my Compassion kids in Brazil.

How's the job hunting going? Still praying...

You continue to say things that tell me how smart and "versatile" you are. Most importantly, how good a friend you surely must be to your personal friends, and how good a bloggy friend you are to us. :)

I think you deserved it and more! I say grace at home with every meal but I often forget when I'm dining out to do so. I guess it's because I'm out of my routine, but it bothers me that I forget.

I didn't know you did daycare. Very cool!

Wow, you really gave those some thought!

Is there such a thing as "too nice"? I guess maybe if it hurts you in the end, but if not--I like that you are nice. Me--I'm not always so nice, but I try.

You so deserve this award my friend, and probably another one for being so nice to offer it to anyone who wants honor. What a wonderful person you truly are. I do wish for you the one true love you wish for that you so justly deserve. Hugs!

Hi!

I just found your blog and became a follower. :-) Congratulations on your award! :-)Before I stayed home with my daughters I was a director and teacher of several child care centers. I enjoy meeting others with common interests. If you get a chance stop by my blog and say hi!
Have a great weekend!
Blessings,
Jill

Congrats on the well-deserved award, Simone dear.
You put me to shame 'cos I can't speak, understand or read/write Mandarin although I'm Chinese. But I can converse in Hakka and Cantonese!

Congrats on your award!

You should open up another daycare. You are so good with children. :)

Yes, you were the very first person I KNEW I'd be giving that award to!

Your 8 facts are amazing! All those languages! A gym coach and parent educator? On top of being a published author, artist, and musician! Versatile seems so inadequate now!

My best friend also prays before any bite of food goes into her mouth. She does it quietly, drawing no attention to herself, and I doubt anyone else except I (who eat with her every day) has noticed it. I admire you both for your devotion.

Have a wonderful week, dearest Simone!

Congratulations on your award and I love that you are learning all those languages. I've often seen those packages (rosetta Stone) and wondered how well they work....

This made me cry. You are such a beautiful person. I know God will bring just the right person into your life for you to cherish. I just know it. : )
I want a baby and I keep begging Gary and he keeps saying wait. I feel worried because I am old and I don't want problems to occur.
I love that you pray so intently and are thankful for food. We are a blessed nation, aren't we?
