You tell me...Am I right or wrong?
This is what I'm talking about:
When I owned my daycare/preschool, the little boys would always be the first to pick up a toy and hoist it over their heads and declare, "See, I'm strong!" They were also the first ones to come running in to show me their "bleed" and then run back outside to "pop a wheelie" on the Big Wheel again. Even when boys are older, they do their best to show everyone around them that they "got this" and will never admit defeat.
When the little boys turn into big boys, they still seem to carry with them that same attitude. Grown up boys tend to boast about their accomplishments great or small such as, "I ate 6 tacos and still went and finished 12 hot wings from KFC." Why?? Or how about the boast of, "That's nothing! I not only broke my wrist but sprained my elbow and still continued to do X,Y,Z..." Or this, it may be 12 degrees below zero outside but their response? "I'm not cold. That's why I'm wearing shorts."
How are we as women supposed to respond? At my daycare, I would respond with, "Wow! You sure are strong!" only to have three other little boys hoisting tricycles over their heads and flexing their muscles." Or, the reply could be, "Now what would make you want to eat that many tacos and wings in one sitting? Don't you dare complain about having a stomache ache!"
Which brings me to this...why do guys, the toughest of tough guys, get sick and turn into little boys again? It's the only time where they let their tough, "I can pick up a car all by myself" attitude fly out the window.
Recently, a friend of mine went through grueling surgery that affected her bowel and womenly parts. It involved her having to using an ostomy bag for a few months and eating baby food for 3 weeks. Not once did she complain about her situation. (Trust me, I would've been complaining and bawling at the thought of it all.) She took it all in stride. Yet, her husband just had shoulder surgery and has been reduced to being a whiney boy all over again.
I think that men really never completely grow up, they just need to wear bigger shoes!
***Note, to my male readers, this was completely in fun...no male bashing here at all.

no you nailed us...see being sick allows us to sit the ego aside and open up to what we all really want which is someone to care for and love on us...smiles.
This made me laugh and nod my head so much I got dizzy!
I have 4 boys of my own and work with little boys almost everyday.
Yep! You pegged them!
Thanks, that made my night and gives me material for school tomorrow.
That really made me laugh.....so glad I stopped by....Have a good Wednesday
Thanks for the laugh! As a nurse, I can tell you this is true. :)
Oh Simone, I have missed coming here to visit with you!!! I loved this -- your wit and your ability to nail it on the head!!! Thanks for the sunshine in my morning!! xoxo
Biggest mystery of life....that's also why we have babies...somethings they just can't handle!
Generally oh so true, but I'm really glad that my husband has been pretty good and is not like that when he is sick. He's not one into dramas. :)
Soooo true! When I had kidney stones I suffered all night because I didn't want to keep my husband up when he had to work the next day. When it became clear I needed to go to the emergency room and I got him up he wanted to know, "Can't your mom or your aunt or someone take you?" The implication being that it was no big deal. I dressed myself and walked to the car. Several years later when HE had kidney stones I found him on the bathroom floor in a fetal position. My mom and I had to dress him and it took both of us to get him out to the car. At the hospital a nurse and I could barely get him into a wheelchair. Puh-lease....this is the same guy that has fallen three stories, had a bulldozer roll over his leg and much more without a complaint. Sickness is a whole other ball game.
Mama always told me that men were just little boys only their 'toys' were more expensive. Boy, did she ever hit the nail on the head!!! Farm Boy loves to buy things with VIN numbers! heeehehe!!!
Great post girl and soooo true.
Have a wonderfully blessed day!
LOL! This is so true! My husband has had many surgeries and not only is he grumpy because he can't do things, he's a big "baby" as well. LOL
Have a great day!
Blessings
Jill
It's so true it's not even funny!
Twenty years with an ostomy here, and I know a few things.
Women manage to operate on automatic no matter what, and when it comes after surgery we're always wondering why we're not suddenly our old selves after just a few days.
I tried to rush my healing, giving no thoughts to the possible detriment I might do to myself.
Men, on the other hand, need to be fully healed BEFORE resuming their normal lives so they don't screw something up.
Girl you nailed it! I love Brian for being man enough to admit what he did.
So funny because it's so true!
Have you seen that commercial where the man is lying on the couch telling his wife he can't reach the remote? Then the narrator comes on and says something about "the man cold!"
I am frequently reminded of a line in Gone With the Wind: "The man roared like a bull when a splinter was in his finger, and the woman muffled the moans of childbirth, lest she disturb him."
When I had my kidney cancer surgery three years ago, it took me 6 weeks to recover. It took Fred 8 weeks. From MY surgery.
Happy St. Paddy's Day!
Yep, you got that right CCD-- My husband is the biggest baby-- ever, when he's sick.
I like Brian Miller's explanation though. It makes me feel a little better :-)

So true!
So glad Brian weighed in first here! :)
I think those men really do like being cared for and loved on. Being sick is the perfect cover...
Crazy, isn't it? So true. I think all the time men are being big and bad is exhausting for them. Getting sick is the only time they can actually drop the macho act and ask for help or sympathy. Or "whine" for it, as it were.
No bashing here either....just 50 some years of observation, 3 brothers, 2 husbands, 1 son, 1 father....
Men don't ever really grow up. Most of them are a heartbeat away from being reduced to 12 year olds. They're emotionally arrested at age 12....you just need to learn where every male's 12 year old switch is....
This was a truthful post! I have a hubby, two sons, a son-in-law and two grandsons! Thanks for sharing.
What timing you have, pally! Joe is currently "dying" with a cold. Oh, you should hear the noises he's making!! UGH. It's so darn dramatic and ridiculous.
