The Uglies

One time, I was crying over something...maybe spilled milk and I looked in the mirror as I was crying. I had the uglies! I have never seen anyone cry and not have a case of the uglies.

But, what I learned that what breaks forth from the uglies is something, pure and good and deep down raw.

I have had a need to have a case of the uglies. Life can sometimes get hard and chaos seems to take over at a time when I just can't afford to have the uglies.

My twin sister was sharing with me years ago, attending a funeral of her husband's grandmother. She said that she looked at the body in the casket and burst into tears. She had the case of the uglies. Her husband thought she was grieving and began rubbing her back and consoling her. Later, she admitted that she wasn't crying because of the grief, although it was quite sad but she was crying because who ever had embalmed Grandma, had turned her green. I'm so very thankful that I wasn't there. We both would've had a bad case of the uglies....snot flying every where, tissues being shredded and then wadded up and tucked away in our purses, not knowing what to do with it.

After laughing about Grandma Green Face, we acknowledged how much we needed a case of the uglies.

I feel the uglies rearing up something fierce lately. The only thing is, my sister isn't here to share the uglies with. It just doesn't do justice to have a case of the uglies all by myself.

Do you have a sister/friend that you know you can share the uglies with? I want to hear all about it!

No, I really don't.
I seldom cry (almost never) and on the rare occasion that I do I absolutely hate for anyone to see me.
If tears come my way I totally "melt down"
and it is beyond ugly and into the hystercal zone.
Sorry, probably TMI. Wah! Wah!

Last time I cried was on pay daylol... i was comusumed by a fear of 'how am i going to manage and not wanting another month like the one just past!' I rarely cry.. I was taken by surprise..Not good to worry over something not yet a reality.. I guess somtimes you need an outlet when talk just wont do!

I'm an easy crier. When someone else cries, I'm right there with them. (and yes - it's ugly!) I have 2 sisters that are the same way, so we cry together!

I tear up easily, I'm a softy. Yes I have a few people who will allow me to "spill it".

My dad always expected me to 'buck~up' and not show tears. He said, "cryin' is a sign of weakness." To this day I'll hold back 'till I almost burst but when I do baby....it's not pretty. Heeehehe!

I have a best friend who I can share the ugliest of ugly with if I need to.

Sounds like you need a visit from your sweet twin.

You have a marvelous blessed day my friend.

I have the uglies often. Sometimes is hormones (menopause sucks) and sometimes I'm sad because I miss my Mom. Sometimes, it's part of being really mad about something. My "best" friends are too far away to share with so my hubby gets to see all the uglies. He knows how to comfort me if I need it.

I hope your uglies that are rearing up go away quickly.

I'm not much of a crier except in sad movies, but I get very ugly when summer ends. Fortunately, I have a sister who will listen and console, and a patient husband.

I cry all the time. Happy tears, laughing tears, sad tears, all the time. Not often do I have what Oprah called "the ugly cry". Right now I have no one to cry with accept Terry and he really isn't concerned after 30 years. Before we moved, I had girlfriends that would call me to console them, but I also got tired of being "that person". So now, if it isn't witnessed, it didn't happen.

I have a theory: we're only ever blessed with less than a handful of real friends in a lifetime.

I have another theory: we can only ever share the uglies with those real friends.

My truth is that there are 4 females I can do that with...and then my sister and my husband. So I'm blessed.

I'm just getting caught up on all of your posts.

I loved your Vanilla and Chocolate post. Many people don't understand mixed couples. I think LW and I have the perfect blend and that makes me happy. Every day I'm a lucky girl.

Happy birthday to your daughter!

Hope all is well. I think of you often!

Oh, I love the way you write! Was just browsing around and found you. I look forward to reading more. As for crying, my sister and I have shared plenty of tears together. But when she cries, she flares her nostrils and it makes me laugh. So there I am crying, laughing, and trying not to flare my nostrils just like her. :0)

I seldom cry and when I do, it's usually over a sad movie (even cartoons) or when someone I care for passes on - the last time was over my pet hamster.

Love your post as always, Simone!

I cry when I'm with someone who begins to cry.

The uglies - only when alone, in the bathroom, in front of a mirror. lol

I can get the uglies with my hubby cause I get into a crying mood and look out! Poor thing, stuck with ugly ole me! I have this awful rosacea and people say the dumbest things about my face! Argh....
